Under 18 Ministry
Branching Out

We have a class that meets on the third Sunday of each month for kids in 5th to 9th grade.  This is our "Branching Out" which is really just a "What We Believe" class for kids.

After the Kids Church classes, we take these pre-teens and teach them the basics of the Christian faith.   Some of the topics covered are:

  • Who is God?
  • What is the Trinity?
  • What is Communion?
  • Why read the Bible?
We have a three-year course and upon completion, the kids are initiated into the church as members.  This is comparable to many mainline denominations of a catechism.

The teachings are relevant to today's kids.  They keep the fact in mind that kids are easily bored and also takes into account the learning curves of kids today.  The ministry includes visual, verbal and "hands on" learning.

Youth

The youth group at the Vineyard meets Thursday nights at 6:00.  They talk and discuss today's topics kids need to talk about with someone besides mom and dad.  The discussions are bible-based and use a discussion format.

The kids are busy.  In the plans for summer are:

  • A gamer night - Call of Duty or Halo for kids and their friends.  Snacks, pizza and an evening of fun.
  • Rock the River - Quad Cities - August 8  We're taking a group to the Rock the River concert
  • Wilderness Project - Plans are in the works for a day-long outing just for the guys.
  • Acquire the Fire - 2010 -- 2009 was so much fun, we're going again next year
The teens have a parental council that meets and prays for the kids, helps with direction for the ministry and support for our youth leader, Renee' Bodman.
Kids Church and Nursery

We are excited about our new Kids Ministry which began June 6, 2010.  We will be working at helping kids grow in their faith and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.  The moral compass to direct an individual for a lifetime is formed by the age of nine. God's plan is that their moral compass, formed in childhood, is to be grounded in His Word. The Bible instructs parents to teach their children God's Word. We want to partner with parents to assist them in fulfilling God's command to them in Deuteronomy 11:16.

Our nursery is attended to by loving moms and grandmothers who love to cuddle and rock babies.  The preschoolers have their own Bible story, game and Bible song times.  Kids as young as eighteen months are encouraged to listen to a story, role-play as they walk through the Bible, and play games which reinforce the stories they study.   Of course, because of their age, a time for play and a small snack is part of the morning's activity.
